Vienna Moms Inc. (VMI) began in 2002 as a social and support network for both stay-at-home and working moms in the Vienna/Oakton area. It was incorporated in 2006 and is a non-profit 501(c)(4) organization. Whether you’re new to town, new to motherhood, or just looking to make some new friends, we have something for you! Our members are able to take advantage of a wide variety of events and benefits, and are encouraged to be as involved as they wish to be. Some members attend nearly every event, while others find value in merely having access to our discussion board hosted on Facebook. Benefits of membership include:
Playgroups: Members may join playgroups, which each consist of a set of 10-12 moms with children in a given age group. Playgroups generally meet on a weekly basis at members' homes. Moms unable to host at their houses are welcome to find alternate locations, such as a park or public library. This is one of our most popular features, allowing both mothers and children to make lasting friendships. Kids Parties: Our Kids Social Chairs organize really fun parties three times per year and we encourage our members to bring the whole family. We have a Fall party with lots of Halloween spirit, a big indoor Winter bash usually involving bounce houses and crafts, and an outdoor Spring blowout. Playdates: Our Playdate Coordinators host several playdates per month, with at least one on a weekend. Playdates are casual meetups usually involving a seasonal activity or craft, or just some playground time for kids to let out some of their energy while their moms socialize with other VMI members. Monthly Featured Events: These are similar to playdates, but occur only once per month and usually involve special entertainment for the children. Our Monthly Featured Events Coordinators bring in special talent such as magicians, musicians, animal experts and others to educate and entertain our kids. Moms Night Outs (MNO): We have monthly moms-only events for our members to have some fun and hang out with each other. Some events involve getting together over a glass of wine or margaritas, some involve sweating it out in a spin or hot yoga class, while others involve learning something new through a cooking or painting class. Our MNO Coordinators are always coming up with exciting new things to try. Speaker Series: Throughout the year our Speaker Series Coordinators bring in experts to educate our members. These events are usually hosted at night and feature experts on topics such as parenting, 529 plans, self-defense and other topics of interest to our base. Philanthropy: Our Philanthropy Coordinators create opportunities throughout the year for our members to give back to the community, as well as teach our little ones about charity. Annual activities include a holiday gift drive and trick-or-treating at a local nursing home, as well as various food and clothing drives throughout the year. Book Club: Members meet once a month at a local restaurant to chat about that month’s selection and pick a new one. Member Forums: We highly encourage our members to join our private Facebook group where we have a very active feed. Members in good standing can search for "Vienna Moms Inc." in Facebook and request to join. The Facebook Group is only for approved and current active members. Our discussions are a great way to learn about the latest local news and events, as well as gather recommendations on everything from allergists and acupuncturists to roofers and plumbers and get advice from our nearly 1200 members.
